This template is split into 6 Tabs: Home, Suspected, Confirmed, Formulary, PEP and Resources.
Home Tab
To learn more on how to use the Home tab, please refer to our Home Tab Support Article for more details.
Suspected Tab
This tab is designed to be used when a patient presents with symptoms that indicate they might have whooping cough.
It is split up into 3 sections:
Assessment - This has Yes or No options to relevant questions on Whooping Cough along with free text boxes to record any findings or concerns. On the righthand side are useful boxes to view or record numerical codes such as BP along with a link to Pneumonia templates, the possible lung cancer template and the sepsis risk template.
Tip: Whenever you see the icon next to a free text box in an Ardens template, clicking on this will present you with a list of relevant text presets. You can select the text you want to add to the box by selecting it and clicking OK. If you want to select more than one option, simply hold down the CTRL key and select multiple options before clicking OK. |
Impression - From the above assessment, the relevant option can be recorded with regards to the suspected pertussis.
Management - Depending on what is selected in the Impression section above, the relevant options in this section will become available to tick with the relevant guidance for the impression presented. If antibiotics are needed there is a link to the 'Formulary' page of the template. Other options include a link to the OTC Medication template, a link to the PEP page of the template and a link to the NOID template to enable a Notification of Infectious Diseases form to be filled out and sent off. There is also a link to a webpage to find the local Health Protection Team by clicking on the 'Local HPT' link. By clicking on the 'Testing criteria for pertussis' link a form with this criteria will open as well.
Confirmed Tab
This tab works exactly the same as the Suspected Tab but is designed to be used with a patient who has already got a confirmed case of Pertussis.
Formulary Tab
This tab is also accessed by clicking on the 'Formulary' link on either of the 'Suspected' or 'Confirmed' pages of the template.
Here you can see the relevant guidance on which drugs to prescribe and a button to prescribe it. By clicking on one of the drugs, a pop up will appear, outlining the patients age and the recommended dosages for that age. Click on the relevant dose to prescribe it. At this point any built in SystmOne prescribing interaction warnings will pop up.
In the box at the bottom there is a list of all the current medication the patient is on. These can be right clicked on and prescribed from that view if required.
PEP Tab
This tab is used on patients that might have come into close contact with another person who has pertussis.
The tab is divided into Assessment, Impression and Action sections.
Assessment - This has yes or no options as well as free text boxes to record any findings. The two free text preset buttons where it says 'Click' will also present the specific contact criteria and priority groups to select the correct ones.
Impression - Depending on the Yes and No answers in the assessment section, the specific options relevant for that patient will light up and be able to be selected to record an impression.
Action - Again, depending on the selections above, the specific actions to take for this patient will light up and be able to be ticked. There is also a link back to the Formulary, a link to the Resources tab, a link to the Immunisations tab and even the link to the Local HPT guidance.
Resources Tab
